Sherwood’s Story BY RON BEARD

One of Sherwood’s friends said, “I hate all this rain. Why does it always have to rain?” He told Sherwood that his mother had said to him, “March winds bring April showers. April showers bring May flowers. So even when it’s a dreary, rainy day, you can feel cheerful, since April showers will bring May flowers.”

That sounded good, but it was March, and a lot of the flowers had already started blooming. It was way too early, and the frosts later on in March killed the blooms. And rain, didn’t it rain! It set new records. The rivers flooded and the ground squished underfoot. So now what was coming in April and May?

Sherwood asked his Dad who told him weather was “unpredictable”. Sometimes March got so warm flowers started to bloom early and got killed. And rain? Sherwood didn’t understand all of Dad’s explanations, so it seemed to him like the weather did whatever it wanted to whenever it suited it. He remembered last January when there was a

week of spring temperatures right in the middle of winter.

Read Genesis 1 By Mary Drew Bult

God created the entire universe. He created the stars, the sky, and the trees. He created you too. He loves you! In verse 31, God calls his creation “good.”

We are made in God’s image! Isn’t that wonderful? We are meant to glorify and enjoy God forever. Yet, we don’t. We are a mess. We are sinners. That’s why God sent his Son, Jesus, to Earth. Jesus took the punishment for our sin. We deserve God’s wrath, but Jesus took it for us even though he was perfect. If we have faith in him, we will have eternal life.

God knows you. He knows how many hairs are on your head and he knows what you had for breakfast this morning. God knows what you’ll do and say tomorrow and every day. He knew you before you were born. He’s always had a plan for you. You may not always see it, but God is always working in your life. So don’t ever think, “I’m not important”. If you ever wonder, “Why am I here?”, there is a good answer to that question. God put you on this earth for a reason, and he wants you to live your life, follow his word, and fulfill his plan. He made you special; the way He wants you to be.

So how do we do what God wants us to do? God speaks to us through

the Bible and we speak to Him through prayer. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you listen to God and live out His plan for you.

(Remember, if you ever have any questions about what God is saying to you through the Bible, be sure to ask a parent, Sunday school teacher, or pastor. They’d love to help you!)

And the poor weatherman on TV seemed to miss the forecast as often as he got it right.

It bothered Sherwood that it seemed like there was nothing you could count on, nothing that acted like it was supposed to. Even grown-ups too often said one thing and then something different the next day when they were talking to someone else.

His dad said, “Sherwood, you can’t always depend on everything you see and hear.” He asked his Dad, “Then what can you always depend on?” His dad told him that was a good question to ask and answered,. “What you can always depend on is God and His Word. He loves you so much that you can always depend on Him, no matter what. When the seasons of the year aren’t dependable, when you cannot believe what you see or hear, no matter how confusing it seems, our God is always the same, yesterday, today and forever.”
