on to explain the “Absolute truth” of God as presented as His True Word in the Bible and Jesus Christ as His only Son who came to save sinners from their sins and that it is not by anything we can do in this life because of our sins. He did not want to talk about it anymore after that – his head hurt. All of that brings us back to Pontius Pilate and his question, “What is truth?” Is there “relative truth” that is different for everyone or is there an “absolute truth” that applies to everyone?

Whatever happened to the concept of truth? In our world, the idea of an ab- solute or ultimate truth — something that is true at all times in all places and has relevance for all our lives — is about as extinct as the dinosaur. With the concept of absolute truth, it gives us both a way to explain the world around us and a basis for making decisions. Without the concept of absolute truth, we are alone. We’re just six billion organisms running around, bumping into each other with nothing unifying to work for or believe in. It’s every man for himself. And we are without a purpose; if there’s no true story of where we came from and why we’re here, then there’s nothing that really gives our lives any meaning. Scripture gives us a very clear and concise picture of what is truth in John 14:5, when Jesus tells Thomas, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus was not displaying arrogance. He simply stated the absolute truth. There is only one God, one sovereign, omnipresent,  Jesus Christ. As Jesus walked the earth, He showed what He is really like and gives us the opportunity to truly know Him. He showed us the absolute truth of God’s word and God’s plan for salvation for us found in that Word. Even though our society tells us that it’s narrow-minded to believe in any type of absolute truth, there’s lots of evidence that says we should run after the ab- solute truth as shown to us in God’s Holy Word with all our hearts. Truth is powerful. It brings life. It has been here since the beginning of time, and it still exists today. Truth is available to all who seek it in the person of Jesus Christ. When Pilate asked Jesus at His trial if He was the King of the Jews, Christ’s response to him was, “You say that I am a king. For this purpose, I was born and for this purpose I have come into this world – to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice.” After that response, Pilate made his famous quote, “What is truth?” There is no truth except what God has given. Jesus is the truth as He is the

Word of God. Christ says the truth will set us free. Jesus is “the way, the truth and the life”. God’s absolute truth is not based on any philosophy, it is not esoteric nor is it relative to experiences or feelings. A relativistic truth always   Do we pursue Christ as the absolute truth of God or do we pursue a relativis- tic construct of what we believe is truth because it makes us feel safe and com- fortable in our little bubble? Keep your eyes on Christ and His absolute truth and He will never fail you. And that promise is absolutely true for all time.
