WHAT IS MY MONEY PAYING FOR WHEN I GIVE TO ARPWM?
By Libby Elder, Treasurer of the ARPWM Board T
he ARPWM helps to support four groups: Jubilee Birthday Ladies, Family Bible Conference, the ARP Magazine, and Retired Missionaries. When you give dona- tions to the ARPWM, it is used for these groups. Jubilee Birthday Ladies support dates back to the early 1900s when it was sug-
missionaries followed soon after. In 1925, our women decided to celebrate that it had - property reverted to its original owners, Israelite slaves were set free, etc.) To celebrate, two ladies were selected to be supported by the Women’s Missionary Societies (later new ladies have been chosen and the current ones are Rebekah Carson who serves in Germany and Shelia Osborne who is the coordinator for short mission trips with World Witness. Your giving helps to partially support these ladies. And, don’t forget to give them your prayer support too! The Family Bible Conference is held in late July every year at Bonclarken. It began
became the Family Bible Conference with activities, seminars, and speakers on topics for children, youth, men and women. There is a worship service in the morning and at night, usually several of them are based on the book of study for the women for the Bonclarken events like swimming, rock wall, boating on the lake, etc. The women spon- sor a Silver Tea on Wednesday afternoon where good food and good fellowship are in abundance (it is for everyone attending the conference, not just the women!) And, on Monday, the ARPWM Annual meeting is held with seminars in the morning and the business meeting in the afternoon. Last year, the ARPWM held a leadership training event on Tuesday afternoon and plan to include that in the years to come. The ARP Magazine is a good way to “keep up” on what is happening in our denomi-
nation. Each issue includes information on events that are happening soon, reporting on events that have happened (Synod, etc.), information from local churches, Bonclarken, Erskine events, etc. There is also a section devoted to women’s articles of interest from various members of the ARPWM board and other writers. It is a great resource for your circles and churches and is available online and in hard copies. You can subscribe indi- vidually or as a church. There is a lower rate if you have a church agent who sends in the money and names and addresses of that church’s subscribers. It is published six times a year and many churches offer a year’s subscription to their new members. Retired missionaries are given a “Christmas bonus” each year by the ARPWM after they have retired. Women’s Ministry has always been “mission-minded” and aware of all that missionaries do and have done. Many move far from home and live When they retire, the ARP women show their appreciation by providing them with a
While these four groups are the main areas that ARPWM support, there are other ex- penses to consider such as regular care and maintenance of Synodical Hall. The budget occurs more money is needed. So, what is your money paying for? It goes toward all of the above! For more in- formation or to make a donation, contact Libby Elder, treasurer of the ARPWM Board.
