Everyday objects can serve as simple lessons about biblical truth. To illustrate the profound concept of the Trinity, for example, some teach- ers use an apple, an egg, or a three-leaf clover. During winter, you can point to a kid-friendly snowman to describe how God is Three in One.

Three in One Three in One

The ball of snow on the base represents God the Father, our Creator and strong foundation. The middle ball, with stick arms reaching to the side, reminds us of Jesus, who died on the cross. And the snowman’s head stands for the Holy Spirit, our ever-present Counselor who helps us and speaks God’s truth to us.

Camp Ch cken and R amp Chiicken and Riice

(Submitted by Trip McGill with credit to Jeremy Haltiwanger for bringing it to camp originally)

• For a 9x13 casserole. Preheat the oven to 350.

• Mix about two thirds of a box of chicken broth (don’t use the low salt), one can of Camp- bell’s Cream of Mushroom Soup (don’t use less salt or any other brand - it won’t taste as good), and the spice packet from the rice box (whisk all of this together until the spices are dissolved and the soup is incorporated into the broth.

• Add the raw rice

• Add ½ of a rotisserie chicken (chicken picked  you add, the more broth you’ll need-you want your rice and chicken covered by the broth, but not too much broth.

• Then cut up about a 1/2 to 3/4 stick of butter in small pieces all over the top

• Cook for 45-1hr uncovered and when the rice is cooked and it isn’t “soupy” it’s ready!

(You must use this rice and spice packet or it will not be camp chicken and rice!) Enjoy!

Listen to your children: Wait to speak; focus on what they’re saying

Observe your children: Watch them; consider what their actions and reactions tell you about their feelings and beliefs.

Verify what they say: Ask them to explain or tell you more; summarize what they’ve said to see if you understand.

Enjoy your children: Respect each child as a unique gift from God; value each child’s place in your family; value and respect each child’s thoughts and feelings. God your Father delights in you. You can model this Father-child rela- tionship as you relate to each of your children.

The colder months are here! That means adding hardier veggies to my diet. Some of my favorites are butternut squash, sweet po- tatoes, regular potatoes, beets, cabbage, brus- sel sprouts, kale, and carrots.

Roasting these veggies is an easy way of incorporating them into your diet and using different colors (orange, green, yellow) make for a beautiful dish!

Here are some tips for roasting veggies: • Cut up the veggies the same size (one- inch bitesize pieces are best).

• Group the veggies by cooking time on sheets – the harder the veggie the longer the time.

• Hardest veggies on one cookie sheet, s ofter on another.

• Use cookie sheets, stoneware, or smaller cooking trays with parchment paper (easy cleanup.)

• Schedule so they all come out at the same time.

• Avoid putting too many veggies on one sheet/tray. cook evenly.

Spread them out so they

• Season, season, season, - don’t be afraid to try new spices and herbs. When us- ing fresh herbs you can do more, versus dried herbs (stronger).

• Oil – I love the spray oils, usually olive and or avocado.

• Always salt and pepper – I use salt and

You really can’t mess up. I tend to poke at my veggies as I cook them to ensure softness. Flipping them once or twice during their cook time can get some browning on both sides. Explore and enjoy.

At the beginning of the year, make a list of chil- dren’s/adult’s birthdays and schedule them to be celebrated on various Sundays of the year. Send a postcard or letter to those whose birth- days you will celebrate on a given Sunday. This will increase excitement, make each child in the class feel special, and will help boost attendance  celebrations brief, including a song, a birthday cupcake with a candle, and a card signed by the rest of the class.
