Garlic
I am a Jack O’ Lantern My lights will shine so bright For I’m a Christian pumpkin My symbols tell what’s right.
My nose is like the cross On which our Savior died To set us free from sin We need no longer hide.
The whole wide world to show That Christians live in this house And love their Savior so!
The story starts at Christmas My eyes are like the star That shone on Baby Jesus And wise men saw from far.

Katey’s
Garlic is an awesome herb! Yes, its an herb. It’s in the family with onions, leeks, and chives. Why use garlic? It adds a unique smell and
It’s rich in allicin (sounds like Allison) which is a very healthy chemical that is released when the garlic is cut. Many nutritionists say when you dice it up to leave it out for several minutes so the allicin can release, then cook with it as you would. The chemical is said to have many medicinal applications, such as treating the - ing the immune system, preventing viruses, lowering cholesterol and more. So how to use garlic in food … There are several ways to prepare it for add- ing to food. Dice up – then add to a soup, stir fry, rice, beans, casserole, scrambled eggs. Bake – cover the entire garlic head with oil and you can even salt and pepper it and wrap it in foil and place in oven 350 degrees for 30 minutes or until soft. Then you add to anything creamy like mashed potatoes, or hummus, or spread on a sandwich. It is sweet and yummy when you bake it. Pickle it – you can pickle garlic like you do pickles. Place in a jar and add pickling mix. Or add to cucumbers to make them tastier. When I run out of my homemade, I found a local brand at my grocery store – we put it on homemade pizza! You can also add to salads! In honey – I am trying a new Instagram sen- sation to place it in honey and burp the jar once a month. The honey draws the chemical allicin out. You can store it and use it for sore throats, colds, etc. Some folks place honey, lemon, gar- lic and ginger in a mason jar and use that for cough medicine or a sore throat remedy. I love the taste that it gives any recipe. Growing: it is super easy to grow.
There
are many different types. It is usually planted in the fall. And in the spring you will have a bounty. They are truly low maintenance. You plant them in the ground root side down. Leave them in the ground till the tops of the plants that sprout up bloom and die. Then you dig up the bulbs, clean and use. The key is good loose soil, and mulch around the shoots when they shoot up. I grew them one year and they were very small, but they grew! I will try again this fall!
If you haven’t already, try garlic in an every- day dish and see if it doesn’t add a new, deli- cious twist.
