Sherwood was sitting down one evening after dinner with his Mom and Dad when the talk turned to Christianity. Sherwood said, “You know, some days I just don’t want to have to think about being a Christian. Sometimes I just want to do what comes up without having to worry about God. What’s wrong with that as long as I don’t do anything bad? It seems like that’s not asking too much, just not to be thinking about God all of the time.” His Dad said, “You would not be asking the question if you
thought that’s the right thing to do, would you?” Sherwood replied that if it made sense that he would not have asked that question unless he felt like there was something not
quite right about thinking that way. He asked Dad to explain why taking a break from his Christianity was wrong. He reminded his Dad that he said that he would not be doing anything bad, so what could be wrong?
You had to keep it watered, or what happened?” Sherwood said, “When I didn’t water it, it wilted, and the blooms fell off.” Dad then added, “Then think about showing up at school one day without any shoes on. Do you think that would be a good thing?”
troubles would really begin.” When he asked what that had to do with taking a break from having God in your life all the time, Dad said, “Those things are true about taking a vacation from God. If you don’t practice your faith, it can wilt and lose blooms like the plant. And when you try to leave God out of your day, it’s like wearing no shoes to school. Nothing good can come from that!” Sherwood thought Dad was pretty smart!
Glorify God
Glorify God – By M. D. Bult With Illustrations by Anna Campbell Bult
“So whether you eat, drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31 It is nearly fall! Summer vacation is over, and most of us are back into our regular routines of school and/or work. It
looks as if relaxing, carefree days are gone – for now. Jumping back into a busy routine can be a challenge after a long break. In the morning we struggle to crawl out of bed,
in the evening we struggle to go to sleep on time, and during the day our minds drift back to that perfect week we spent in the mountains or those restful hours we spent by the pool. We all wish summer could last forever! Be encouraged by reading God’s Word. God knew we would often have to do things we don’t want to do. God knew we
would feel tired and discouraged at times. Yet He commands us to do all for His glory – even the most mundane tasks. Thankfully God promises to help us glorify Him – because we could not glorify Him very well on our own! Simply ask
Him to give you strength. Then next time your teacher gives you a pile of homework to do, don’t complain. Do the work with a cheerful attitude, remembering your Heavenly Father loves you and is with you. When your parents ask you to take out the trash, obey them with a smile. When you spot your elderly neighbor struggling to unload groceries, offer to lend a hand. By glorifying God, we bring joy into our own lives and into the lives of others! Don’t forget: Jesus is the perfect role model, and if you truly love and trust Him you will gradually become more like Him! All we have to do is ask Him for help. Praise God for His wonderful patience and love!
“I give thanks to you, O Lord my God, with my whole heart, and I will glorify your name forever.” – Psalm 86:12
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” – Ephesians 2:10
“…fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10
