REAL-TIME PCR PANEL FOR EQUINE HEPATITIS VIRUSES


The University of Kentucky Veterinary Diagnostic Labora- tory has validated an Equine Hepatitis real-time-PCR panel to detect Equine Parvovirus and Equine Hepacivirus in clin- ical samples. Tese assays can be performed either individu- ally for Equine Parvovirus or Equine Hepacivirus or together as the Equine Hepatitis Panel.


Both viruses have been reported to cause hepatitis in exper- imental horse models and have been associated with liver disease in naturally infected, clinically ill horses. As both vi- ruses can be present in clinically normal horses, PCR results should be interpreted in conjunction with history, clinical findings, and other laboratory results.


Sample types: Serum, plasma, whole blood (purple top-EDTA), liver, liver biopsy (not formalin-fixed) Fee: $55.00/sample (panel); $32.00/sample (individual virus) Turn-around time: Two working days
