PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Greetings to you all as we experience the beautiful months of fall and winter in the Bluegrass State! What a great Mid-America Conference we had in Indiana!
For those who attended, we hope you enjoyed it! Te Silent and Live Auctions brought in a record-breaking $12,000 for the eastern Kentucky veterinary com- munities! Tank you to all who supported the cause. We also look forward to reading your reviews and taking in your feedback from the conference. Believe it or not, we start planning next year’s conference in November at our annual Ex- ecutive Board Retreat in Lexington. Topics of discussion and planning include further developments/updates in the Practice Act Modernization proposal set forth by the KBVME. We continue to look forward to our conversations and teamwork with the KBVME.
Additional topics of great importance also include emergency and disaster preparedness for our veterinary communities. Last year, many Kentucky veterinary clinics, their staff members, their prospective commu- nities suffered great damage, trauma and stress from catastrophic environmental events. Over the past two years, the KVMA has put in time, effort and planning on further defining and uniting the Commonwealth veterinary constituent groups. Tis organizational effort was led by Dr. Ben Redmon with tremendous support from Ms. Hamelback. Little did we know then, that this effort, which did not seem high priority then, has laid the groundwork for further planning and development of KVMA emergency preparedness plans. We look forward to further launching and implementing this program and will be looking for lead- ership as well. We have had early interest from some of our Power of Ten Leadership group already!
Another topic of importance is that we as a board will be revisiting our Strategic Plan and making efforts to improve, expand and continue to serve the needs of our membership. As your partners and advocates, the KVMA prioritizes our Mission Statement; To promote, protect, and improve the veterinary profession in the Commonwealth. We appreciate your support and involvement.
Sincerely,
Dr. Brigette Dean-Hines KVMA President
