PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Greetings Colleagues and Friends, I hope you are doing well and happy getting back into a more normal time for Veterinary medicine. Te last 18 months or so have shown us all how resilient veterinarians are. We should be very proud of our profession. Hopefully we will return to normalcy, whatever that is, in the near future. Troughout the COVID pandemic the KVMA has continued to support our members in many ways. One way we have done this is through offering continuing education. We recent- ly held the 110th KVMA Annual Meeting and 48th Mid-America Veterinary Conference. Te conference was held at the Galt House in Louisville, Ky. We had an extremely good attendance, especially with it being a non-renewal year. Tis shows that most people are ready to get back out to see their friends and colleagues face-to-face.

It was great to talk to many of you at the conference. We have already begun the process of planning the 2022 KVMA Annual Meeting and the 111th Mid-America Veterinary Conference. Next year’s conference is going to be held at the Belterra Casino Resort in Florence, Indiana. Te 2020 conference was originally scheduled at Belterra because of renovations at the Galt House in Louisville and the Conference center in Lexington. Belterra Resort went above and beyond letting us out of our contract due to the COVID-19 situation. Tis saved the KVMA thousands of dollars, so we felt we owed it to them to hold the conference there in 2022. Dr. Bridgette Dean-Hines will be working hard to schedule an awesome conference. Don’t worry, we will be back in the state of Kentucky for future conferences.

Te COVID pandemic has been hard on everyone and especially veterinarians. Te KVMA works hard to support our members. One project that was initiated by last year’s President, Dr. Debra Shoulders, is the mentorship program. We have teamed up with Dr. Addie Reinhard to match mentor and mentee veteri- narians across the state. Dr. Reinhard’s program “Mentor Vet” gives the newer members of our profession someone to talk with when they need it. Many of us have been out for a while and have seen how much things have changed in veterinary medicine over the years. It is easy to forget how hard the first few years of a veterinary career can be. Te program is for all veterinarians, not just recent graduates. Feel free to reach out to us if you have questions about the Mentor Vet program.

I am looking forward the next year serving as President of the KVMA. Feel free to contact me, or the KVMA office, if you have any questions. Let us know if we can help you in any way.

Sincerely,

Jason L. Rodgers, DVM KVMA President
