DISTINGUISHED SERVICE AWARD - DR. KELLY GIESBRECHT Te KVMA Distinguished Service Award was awarded to Kentucky Public Health State Veterinarian Dr. Kelly Giesbrecht for her steadfast guidance throughout the pandemic of COVID-19 while veterinarians remained essential throughout this time. Dr. Giesbrecht dedication and service to the veterinary profession is remarkable.

VETERINARIAN OF THE YEAR AWARD - DR. EMILY BEWLEY Dr. Emily Bewley of Te Kentucky Humane Society in Louisville, Ky., was presented the Veterinarian of the Year Award. She was integral in the primary care of Ethan, the 2021 KVMA Animal Hall of Fame inductee. Dr. Bewley was on the frontline of Ethan’s veterinary care. Te team at Te Kentucky Humane Society also received a special recognition plaque for their continued care.

KVMA ANIMAL HALL OF FAME ETHAN THE ALMIGHTY


Te 2021 KVMA Animal Hall of Fame was awarded to “Ethan the Almighty.” Ethan’s remarkable journey began when he was left at the Kentucky Humane Society barely alive and suffering from extreme star- vation. He was transferred to Jefferson Animal Hos- pital where their team provided triage care to Ethan for four days until he was stable enough to return to KHS to recover. Ethan has received the best possible care and is now a walking miracle. Ethan he was ad- opted by KHS Facility Director Jeff Calloway and his wife, Dana.

Tere is a pre-filed bill for the 2022 General Assem- bly that is named “Ethan’s Bill.” If passed it will cre- ate much stronger animal cruelty laws in the state of Kentucky. Ethan’s award read: “In recognition of an animal that exemplifies the affection, loyalty and value of the human/animal bond, and dedication while serv- ing an individual and community.”
