IN MEMORIAM
DR. RAYMOND H. STONE (1933 - 2021) Dr. Raymond H. Stone, Jr., age 88 of Sturgis, Kentucky., passed away Saturday Aug 14, 2021 at St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. He was born July 30, 1933 in Morganfield to the late Raymond H. And Annabell Stone.
Dr. Stone graduated from Morganfield High School in 1951, where he was Mor- ganfield’s first FFA State Star Farmer. He graduated from Western Kentucky Uni- versity in 1955 and from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1962. He was a member of Omega Tau Sigma Fraternity. Dr. Stone served as Vice-President of the Kentucky Veterinary Medical Association, and was a mem- ber of the American Veterinary Medical Association. “Doc” practiced in Morgan- field and Madisonville prior to opening Stone Veterinary Clinic in Sturgis in 1966. He retired from practice in 2019 after 57 years.
Dr. Stone was also involved in the community, serving as Deacon of First Baptist Church in Sturgis since 1973. He served two terms on the Union County School Board from 1978-1986 and was on the Union County Fair Board. He received the Degree of Honorary State Farmer in 1982. Doc was a member of the Pork Producers, the Beef Producers, and the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association. He was instrumental in helping eradicate pseudorabies in swine in Kentucky. Dr. Stone was a Kentucky Colonel and a Mason.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Twila Crowley Stone; son R.H. Stone III (Linda) of Evansville, Ind.; daughters Zandy Jenkin (John) of Sturgis, Ky., and Nancy Merel of Henderson, Nev.; sisters Margaret Stodghill of Clarksville, Ind., and Betty Vaughn of Franklin, Tenn. He leaves eight grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
