UNDERSTANDING EMSSI

Baugus recently invited six key in- dividuals involved in the formation, planning, execution and eventual roll-out of the Exhibitions Meetings Safety & Security Initiative (EMS- SI) to participate in a roundtable conversation to discuss all facets of While articles have been written in this magazine and elsewhere about EMSSI following its launch at IMEX America in October of last year, the goal for this one-hour give-and-take session was to give all six individuals an opportunity to discuss their role in EMSSI and its centers. The conversation also led to a myriad of related topics to give IAVM members a complete and full understanding of the initiative. We expect, of course, that members will continue to have questions as the initiative moves forward, and we will be available to get those answers for you. R.V.: So how did this whole thing start?
David DuBois: A good friend of mine by the name of Kevin Ol- sen approached me in June 2016 in Atlantic City during an industry conference and said they had a concept they had been working on. Kevin ran the concept by me and after about 20 minutes I said to meeting representing a broad coalition of industry brands and orga- nizations. It took place within 30 days of that initial conversation in Atlantic City.
Kevin Olsen: In April 2016 I facilitated a panel of industry leaders our industry, a conversation after the session took place in the bar. This one centered around security. It became clear that there were no guidelines or standards around safety and security for our industry. - lenges facing our industry, and they enlightened me and Eric Rozen- After their explanation regarding the SAO, they shared their ex- perience with related industries of exactly what we needed.
