Forward Focus Unhasting and Unresting REFLECTIONS

by JENNIFER GUTHRIE, EDITOR

As you look forward to reading this issue of the Fellowship Focus magazine, you will find many updates on our Fellowship, as July hosted the ings

annual meet- for both Canada and the

United States. Much work went into preparing and holding these meetings. This issue will be a great re- source to learn more about how our Fellowship invests in its churches and members, as well as how it con- nects us all as believers within this small Fellowship.

If you had not heard by now, this will be my last issue

as the editor of the Fellowship Focus. I have been bless- ed to hold this position, learn new skills, and further invest in the FEBC on a different level. I have enjoyed getting to know more about how the FEBC leadership connects with and serves its churches and members. I have also loved getting to know the churches and mem- bers of the FEBC around North America. The love of Christ and the heart for ministry and service has been very tangible through the writings and updates that we receive for the Fellowship Focus. Praise God we can be a part of a group of believers that desires so much to con- nect as a larger body of Christ and serve His kingdom!

In the last few years my church — Community Bible

Church of Omaha, Nebraska — has had a “Forward in Faith” theme as we look forward to selling and buying a new property for our growing church. I have loved this theme, especially over the last year. As I leave the Fel- lowship Focus in the hands of Jennifer Kopsa, I look for- ward in faith to how God will use her to continue serv- ing the FEBC. I look forward in faith to how God will grow and challenge me in this new and ever-changing, season of life — adding another little boy to our family and starting the journey of homeschooling.

This last year has been a year of upheaval and

change. May we all look forward in faith to how God will use these opportunities and changes in our lives and in our Fellowship to further His Kingdom, for His glory and for our good.

by JENNIFER KOPSA, INCOMING EDITOR

Unhasting and unresting. Thus, Walter Chalmers described God in the hymn, “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise.” Oswald Chambers used those same words to preach about Jesus, as published in the devotional book “My Utmost for His Highest.”

It’s a true description. Jesus knew what he

was supposed to be doing. He had perfect timing. No one on earth could stress him out and make him think he was dropping the ball. No one could pressure him into just taking the day off to meet their needs for relaxation and affection. That’s what we humans do to each other. Bound by space and time, confined by our human bodies, we can’t be in more than one place at a time. We make our- selves (and others) miserable in our limitations and by our expectations.

Have you ever wished you had an extra set of hands?

Think that through. If you got your wish, you’d want more sets of hands. Have you ever wished you were smarter? There would always be someone better off than you. If you were granted that wish, you’d want to be more clever still. Does that remind you of anyone? Satan was not satisfied to be the bearer of light that God made him to be. Wanting more, he chose to become an adversary instead.

God made you to be exactly the person you are with all

your limitations for a reason. He wants you to need him. He wants you to need others. Jesus showed us how to do that. He didn’t haste because, relying on his Father for guidance, he was confident. He was unresting because his focus was his Father’s perfect will. We can live our lives with the same confidence, turning toward God and living for him.

Today, I greet you as the new editor of Fellowship Fo-

cus. My goal is to be like Jesus, unhasting and unresting. Pray for me. I want to do a good job, trusting God

to use my hands to do exactly what he wants, and at just the right time.

Do you have a story to share? Please send it to me.

We are in this fellowship for a reason. Let’s discover it together.

Jennifer Kopsa has been attending Community Bible

Church of Omaha, Nebraska, since 2010. She has served in var- ious capacities, including youth group leader, Sunday morning greeter and, occasionally, as an Awana night kitchen cook. She and her husband, James, have seven children. Jennifer enjoys travel, good food and great conversation.
