Students Receive Scholarships for Ministry Training

by PAUL BOEKER

Since 1969 the Fellowship has offered scholarships to undergraduates preparing for Christian ministry and to missionaries and pastors needing additional training. The FEBC Scholarship Fund has been built from bequests and designated gifts. Only the income from these funds is used for scholarships.

This year, 13 students applied for the Christian Minis-

try Scholarship and four Christian workers applied for the Continuing Education Scholarship. Scholarships of $1000 were awarded to four students and two Christian workers.

Christian Ministry Scholarships Students who received scholarships stood out through

their clear determination to prepare for ministry. Each one is already active in ministry in their churches and communities.

Zachary Hall is a married student with Army Reserve

experience. He is currently active in youth ministry at Crosspoint Bible Church of Omaha, Nebraska. He com- mented, “I enjoy filling spots that people need filled and also have a desire and passion for teaching God’s word to others.” Zachary is currently enrolled in online classes fulltime at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri. He is moving toward a BA in Bibli- cal Studies on a path to earning an MDiv degree.

Shawna Mwakikuti returned in 2020 to Waldheim,

Saskatchewan, with her husband for a visit, COVID-19 prevented them from going back to their work of rescuing victims of human trafficking in Africa. Shawna is using her time to work online toward a degree in Christian Counseling at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, to enhance her ministry to women. Shawna grew up in Salem Church of Waldheim, is a member, and has been a global partner of Salem for many years.

Marcus Obianime is a second year student at Alberta

Bible College in Calgary, Alberta. This summer he is working with Canadian Center for Bio-ethical Reform, “an educational human rights organization dedicated to making abortion unthinkable in Canada” (www.endthek- illing.ca). Marcus is a member of Northeast Bible Church of Calgary, Alberta. He leads a prayer band at Northeast Bible and assists in other areas of church life.

Anabel Stucky grew up in Brazil in a missionary

home. Her parents are supported by Community Bi- ble Church of Omaha, Nebraska. She will be a second

year student at Word of Life Bible Institute Hungary in Tóalmás, Hungary (wolbi.hu). This summer Anabel is working in a camp and orphanage in eastern Europe. She expressed her goal for studying: “I feel that God is leading me to be a missionary somewhere in the world and that I should further pursue my Bible Studies. I [want] to contin- ue to grow in other areas of my life and be able to focus on the practical part of ministry.”

Continuing Education Scholarship People already in ministry who need additional

training to increase their ministry skills can apply for this scholarship. All applicants this year had many years of ministry experience.

Lori Stucky has been a missionary in Brazil for over

30 years. She recently accepted the position of junior high principal of the school her team started in 2000. As she works daily with adolescents, she has seen the need for more training. Lori is working on a degree in Christian Counseling at Liberty University. Lori and her husband Ken are members of Community Bible Church of Omaha, Nebraska. And yes, she is the mother of Anabel Stucky!

Ben Bedlion has been on staff of Evangelical Bible

Church (EBC) in Dallas, Oregon, for 12 years and youth pastor for eight of those years. Now he senses God is lead- ing him to move into a role of pastor for a church plant, and he wants to train for that. Ben is enrolled in an online MDiv program at Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon, as he continues to work with youth at EBC. He plans to graduate in late 2022.

Eryn McDonald was selected as alternate awardee if

one of the other recipients does not attend school this fall. She is a third year student at Millar College of the Bible in Pambrun, Saskatchewan, with a major in Biblical Studies. Her goal is “to develop skills for evangelism and minis- try.” Eryn is already active in youth ministry in her home church, Salem Church of Waldheim, Saskatchewan.

The Commission on Education congratulates all these

students and prays that God will give them success in their studies and joy in their ministries for Christ.

Paul Boeker is a long-time member of Crosspoint Bible

Church in Omaha, Nebraska. He and his wife, Fayth, have been involved in church ministries throughout the years. Paul currently chairs the Commission on Education (CoE) for the FEBC.

FELLOWSHIP FOCUS, AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2021 12

With the rapidly increasing cost of education, $1000 does not go far; it would be wonderful to be able to increase the dollar amount of scholarships. The Fellowship welcomes contributions and bequests to this fund. You can have a hand in training the next generation of pastors and global workers through your gifts to the Scholarship Fund.
