Sigmund Judah Rosenfeld (b. 1 July 1929) passed away peacefully in his sleep on the 19th of May 2022 at the age of 92.
Sig was born in Miami, Florida and lived a full and adventur- ous life. Always inspired by science, he studied geology at the University of Florida and Emery University of Georgia, gradu- ating with a master’s degree. Between his undergraduate and graduate degrees, he served his country as a celebrated officer in the Korean War. Soon after, he moved across the country to Denver Colorado, studied law at University of Denver, and started his career as a Geologist for Shell Oil.
In Denver, he met and married the love of his life, Lucille Zimmerman, and together they had two beautiful children, Andrew and Shelli. As well as raising a wonderful family, Sig founded his own company, Juniper Petroleum, and engaged in many other exploration endeavors, resulting in a vibrant lifelong career in the oil and gas industry. He was also an active member of the American Association of Petroleum Geologists and the Denver Mining club. Sig was loved by all who knew him. His inquisitive mind and genuine interest in all the people he met meant he always made fast friends. Sig was a lifelong lover of opera and classical music, a big traveler and had a deep passion for food and cooking. He could always be found at a new cooking class, making gourmet meals for friends and family, or trying new food around the world. He will be remembered for his passion for life in all facets. His daily visits to the JCC well into his 90s inspired us all to live life to the fullest and not take each day for granted.
