In September the Committee hosted an end of the summer beach clean-up with the Surfrider Foundation of North OC. It was one of the hottest days of the year but more than 60 Chapter volunteers showed up and collectively gathered more than 50 pounds of trash! Love Drop partnered with the Committee and provided burritos and treats to all in attendance.
Later in September the group volunteered at Farmhouse Rescue OC, a 28-acre farm sanctuary in Trabuco Canyon that rehabilitates animals and humans alike. The Committee members yet again rolled up their sleeves and helped clean out and restore the property’s giant chicken coop! Although it was a lot of hard work, they had the best time wrangling chickens, feeding goats, and shoveling hay.
In November the Committee took their volunteer work by the reigns and spent a day serving The Shea Center, a therapeutic riding center in San Juan Capistrano. At The Shea Center, through the broad spectrum of equine assisted therapy and activities, individuals of all ages with disabilities experience life-changing physical and emotional rewards through horse therapy. The Committee spent a morning helping the center decorate for the holidays. Members hung holiday lights, decorated Christmas trees, wrapped poles with garland, and helped make a very festive atmosphere for all who entered.
To finish off the year the Committee hosted their annual Holiday Mixer & Toy Drive for Olive Crest. For more than 50 years Olive Crest has been dedicated to preventing child abuse by strengthening, equipping, and restoring children and families in crisis. For nearly 20 years CAI-OC has been proud to help champion their cause. With the generous help of all of our CAI-OC members, the Committee was yet again able to fulfill all 150 gift wishes for foster children at Olive Crest. What an amazing feeling knowing how many smiles our organization has brought to so many kids during the holidays.
The CAI-OC Community Outreach Committee would like to sincerely thank each and every Chapter member who helped make 2024 an incredible year of service. They are looking forward to the new year ahead and cannot wait to see all that they can accomplish in 2025!
