2024: A Year of Great Service!

It’s no secret that the Community Outreach Committee is always on the move and looking for ways to serve and give back to the community. The Committee is responsible for organizing CAI-OC’s quarterly Chapter-wide outreach events but did you know they also volunteer as a group 1-2 times a quarter as well? Let’s recap all of the ways this great group of humans served Orange County this year, shall we?
The Committee started off the year in February volunteering at the OC Rescue Mission in Tustin organizing its massive warehouse. Together the team categorized and checked the expiration dates on thousands of non-perishable food donations. Finishing up their time there, the Committee packed 50 boxes of food to be distributed to families throughout Orange County.
Next was their 1st quarter event- The Annual Volunteer Day at the OC Food Bank! Similar to their work at the OC Rescue Mission, more than 90 CAI-OC volunteers worked in assembly lines to pack boxes of food for low-income senior citizens throughout Orange County. These boxes contained non-perishable food
items and other staples that provided nutrition to those in need. Our amazing group of volunteers worked extremely hard and were able to pack more than 1600 boxes of food!
In May, the Committee volunteered together at one of their favorite places - The Giving Farm! The Giving Farm is an 8-acre working farm at Westminster High School. This is an amazing farm-to-food bank program that works to promote student and community engagement in the California agricultural industry. Together the Committee rolled up their sleeves and got in the dirt to harvest rows and rows of strawberries and packaged them to be distributed at local food banks.
The crew’s 2nd quarter Chapter-wide event was a Diaper Drive benefi ting HomeAid Orange County. This was the Committee’s 2nd year collaborating with HomeAid, an amazing non-profi t organization working to improve and expand housing and resources for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness. CAI-OC members donated more than 30,000 baby care items contributing to HomeAid’s collective total of nearly 1,000,000 items such as diapers, wipes, and baby food!
