A ribbon-cutting ceremony July 18th at the Bishop Manor Community to celebrate the grand opening of the new play space. The event marked the completion of a collaborative effort between local leaders, volunteers, and community members to bring new life to this under-resourced Santa Ana neighborhood. The project transformed a dirt lot into a colorful playground with brand-new equipment and a large-scale mural, representing CAI-OC’s fi rst hands-on community impact initiative of its kind.

“What happened here at Bishop Manor is more than a playground installation—it’s a blueprint for how industry professionals, residents, and nonprofi t partners can come together to create real change,” said Mike Perlof, CAI-OC President-Elect. “We’re proud to be part of this neighborhood’s story and excited to see this model replicated in communities across Orange County.”

The transformation was powered by an extensive team of volunteer tradespeople, community-minded companies, and nonprofi t partners donating services ranging from ground prep and equipment installation to mural design, insurance consulting, and safety inspections.

“This is a community that has always had heart, but for too long, our kids didn’t have a safe place to play,” said Alcaras. “Now they do, and it’s beautiful.”

The Bishop Manor Playground Renovation Project was developed as a pilot initiative by CAI-OC to demonstrate how homeowner associations and their professional partners can give back meaningfully through coordinated
