Recognizing a passion for advocacy, Jamie joined the Legislative Support Committee, where he served as both the Chapter liaison and later as the Chapter’s Delegate to the California Legislative Action Committee (CLAC). During his tenure, Jamie championed legislative priorities that elevated the professionalism of community association management and strengthened protections for homeowners, including his involvement in helping to form CAI’s position on a then-proposed law to prohibit boards from taking any action outside of a duly called meeting. The legislation was ultimately revised to allow HOA boards to take critical emergency action between meetings, if needed.

At the CAI-National level, Jamie’s expertise was acknowledged in 2011 when he was selected to serve on CAI-National’s “Mortgage Matters” Team. Here, he worked alongside peers to address critical challenges, involving the FHA and HOA transfer fee issues.

In 2008, Jamie’s professional growth led him to chair the PCAM Assistance Council, where he personally assisted community managers preparing for the PCAM Case Study. His efforts were instrumental in helping many managers on their own path to obtaining the PCAM designation. When the Manager Support Committee was formed in 2009, Jamie served as one of its founding chairs, a role he held until 2013. Under his leadership, the Committee was recognized as Committee of the Year.

After serving in various roles on multiple committees, Jamie decided to take the next step in his leadership journey by throwing his hat into the ring for the Chapter Board of Directors. Elected in 2009, Jamie served for six years, including five years on the Executive Committee. In 2013, he was selected as Chapter President, a role in which he led the chapter to significant membership growth reflecting Jamie’s strategic vision and ability to rally members toward a shared goal.

Besides his roles on various committees and the Board, Jamie has also been a prolific contributor to the OC View, writing articles that have twice earned him nominations for Author of the Year (including reflections on his PCAM case study experience and insights into the evolving role of technology in management). Additionally, Jamie has been a speaker at CAI-OC events including a few monthly luncheons, the CAI Legal Forum, and CLAC’s “Day at the Capitol” in Sacramento.

Holding the CMCA, AMS, and PCAM designations, Jamie has consistently emphasized the vital role of education, believing that well-trained managers are essential to the success of community associations. He has been a vocal advocate for state and national certification for community managers and a strong proponent of legislation mandating continuing education and ethical standards within the HOA profession.

Jamie embodies the ideals of the May Russell Lifetime Achievement Award and was truly deserving of the award. His career has been defined by vision, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to CAI’s mission. His career has been truly impactful and inspiring!
