Referencing the recent condominium collapse that occurred in Surfside, Florida, Senator Fontana feels that we should explore additional legislation to provide consumer protection for the owners and the buyers in a common interest community. He wants to engage all interested parties in order to find common ground, and will be looking for cooperation from the courts so that the laws will be enforced in a consistent manner. He is looking forward to working with the PA LAC to craft legislation that CAI can support to make association living safe and secure and to reduce inconsistencies in interpretation of association documentation.

Other issues that are most important to Senator Fontana are education, mail-in ballots, gun control, and carbon monoxide protections. In supporting education, he feels we need to promote programs that reduce student debt, and provide an opportunity for every child to get an education. He stressed that it is imperative that students stay in school, and that family support is critical to make that happen. He would like to see Pennsylvania become a mail-in ballot state and feels that, “without a doubt it takes a lot of this away that we’ve been through in the last year or so.”

Senator Fontana is also supporting gun control measures, particularly to control ghost guns and to provide for extreme risk protection, and feels that a criminal or mentally ill person shouldn’t be allowed to have a gun if they are a threat to themselves or to someone else. He feels, “it doesn’t matter if you’re a member of the NRA, [these measures] should be okay.” And finally, he has been pushing legislation which would require carbon monoxide detectors in day care centers, senior care centers, and other similar facilities.
