ur industry is underpinned by the hard work, dedication, and expertise of our employees—
their skills and experience are by far our most valuable asset. With 41 years in this industry, I know that the best investment we can make is the devel- opment of our people. It is our responsibility to ensure their
safety and well-being at work, but it is our opportunity to further their tech- nical knowledge and skills, improve their interpersonal and leadership capabilities, and constantly educate them on the safe work practices that keep our jobsites safe and productive. By investing in our people, we ensure a strong and vital industry. Physical safety has always been a top
priority for AGC of California and the construction industry. We have made significant strides in implementing safety protocols and training programs to protect our workers on the jobsite. However, we must do more to emphasize the importance of mental health in our industry. The construction environ- ment is stressful, and it is crucial that we provide the support and resources necessary to help our employees man- age their mental health. I invite all AGC of California con-
tractors to join me in participating in Safety Week (May 5-9). This crucial event highlights the importance of jobsite safety protocols and practices while fostering a culture of vigilance and care on our jobsites. By actively engaging in Safety Week,
contractors can reinforce their com- mitment to protecting their workforce,

reducing accidents, and promoting a safer work environment. It also provides an opportunity to share best practic- es, learn from industry experts, and demonstrate leadership in safety stan- dards. Your participation in Safety Week shows your teams that you care about their well-being and contributes to the success of our construction industry. I would also like to take this oppor-
tunity to remind everyone about our upcoming AGC Legislative Day on May 7 in Sacramento. Tis event allows our members to engage with state elected officials and advocate for the causes that matter most to our industry. We have many newly elected state legislators, and this is a great opportunity to edu- cate them on our industry—invite your local representative to visit a jobsite! It is good strategy to showcase how the jobs we build improve quality of life for all and emphasize the importance of our industry’s contributions to California’s infrastructure and economy. Make plans to attend. Active involvement in advocacy is how we can drive positive change and ensure the sustainability of our industry. Let’s come together and continue to
value and protect our most important resources—our employees. Together, we can create a safer, healthier, and more prosperous future for the construction industry.
