Apex Group partner Felipe Fuentes, himself a longtime AGC of California advocate, commented on the impact Gladfelty had on many during his career in advocacy. “Paul was more than a col- league; he was a mentor, a pioneer, and a true force in California’s government affairs. His commitment to bridging divides and crafting impactful, effective policy was matched only by his passion for empowering others to succeed. Paul’s vision and integrity shaped the success of Te Apex Group and set a benchmark for excellence in advocacy. His impact will continue to inspire all of us who had the privilege of learning from his remarkable example.” AGC of California CEO Peter Tatei-

We are profoundly thankful for the pivotal role he played in driving progress and growth.”

Following is the official obituary provided by Paul Gladfelty’s family.

Paul Peter Gladfelty, affectionately known as “Pauly” or “Pablo” passed away un-

expectedly on January 20, 2025, at the age of 69. He was born July 19, 1955, in Pasadena, California to David and Joan Gladfelty. Growing up he learned the skill of painting from his father, a skill passed down through generations. In early adolescence, his love for adventure began, taking backpack trips through the San Gabriel Mountains as a young teen with his close friends, crossing rivers to find the perfect fishing spots. He attended California State Uni-

versity, Fullerton for his undergraduate and after went on his next adventure to Sacramento for an internship that launched what became nearly 50 years of advocacy work in California government relations. His career began with the Ser- vice Employees International Union, and by the age of just 31, he became the lead lobbyist for the California Manufacturers Association, an impressive milestone that set the tone for a lifetime of influence in policy and business advocacy. Soon after his move to Sacramento,

he met Candy, the love of his life and wife of 47 years. Starting a family and working full-time, Paul attended McGeorge School of Law at night, graduating in 1984 with his Juris Doctor, carrying 3-month-old Courtney across the graduating stage. Tat same year he embarked on an entre- preneurial journey, establishing Gladfelty Government Relations. A few years later, he co-founded Te Apex Group which built a legacy of strategic leadership in government relations and at the same time growing his family with the birth of his son Bret. Paul’s passion for painting and love for

adventure remained constant throughout his life. He and Candy fell in love with Mayne Island, British Columbia which became their cherished second home.

Summers were spent exploring the sur- rounding islands by boat, fishing, and making lifelong memories with family and friends. Paul was known for his boundless

enthusiasm, generosity, kindness, and unwavering work ethic, both profession- ally and personally. His tenacity, deep care for others, and ability to bring joy to every situation left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be profoundly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many lives he touched throughout his career and life. Paul is survived by his beloved wife

Candy, daughter Courtney (Nick), son Bret (Jael), his treasured grandchildren Beau and Dylan. He is also survived, by his mother-in-law Nellie, his sister Sue (Craig) and many loved nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests

that donations be made to the McGeorge School of Law Gladfelty Scholarship for Government Affairs, ensuring that Paul’s passion for advocacy and leadership con- tinues to inspire future generations.
