McCarthy Tops Out Hoag Hospital Irvine McCarthy Building Cos. recently marked the concrete pour topping out of the $500 million Hoag Hospital Irvine Expansion Project in Irvine, California. Te project is adding adds 450,000 sq. ft. of new specialty care centers featuring
two inpatient hospital buildings, two outpatient medical offices, a logistics building, and an expansion to an existing inpatient hospital, in addition to dedicated urgent care services for cancer patients. Te new facilities will include cutting-edge technology and advanced surgical suites,
according to McCarthy. Unique features of the build include laser scanning technology, a collection of buildings with interconnected tunnel systems and a co-location office. Te project is expected to be completed in 2026.
Granite Awarded Caltrans Project on SR99 Granite announced that it was recently awarded an approximately $66 million contract by Caltrans for an interchange project on SR99 in Visalia, California. Te project scope includes the construction of two new precast girder bridges:
a two-span structure over SR99 and a single-span structure over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Additionally, 12 new retaining walls will be built, featuring cast-in- place concrete, mechanically stabilized earth walls, and soldier pile walls with timber lagging. To further enhance accessibility, four new on/off ramps will be constructed, with traffic being controlled by new roundabouts at each set of ramps. Approximately 216,000 cubic yards of import borrow will be used to widen the em-
bankments for the expanded roadways on either side of the new bridges. Te project also includes upgrades to drainage systems, installation of pavement delineation and roadside signage, and replacement of highway electrical items. Construction is expected to begin in August 2025 and be completed in 2027.
