n January 7, 2025, and the days afterward, the fires in the Los Angeles area affected thou-
sands of people, including Build Group Construction Company, Inc. The final toll is unimaginable. Over 16,000 lost homes, not to mention schools, places of worship, shops, public infrastructure. Priceless articles of personal property were lost forever. At least 29 people lost their lives. Tis tragedy did not spare Build Group.
Several Build Group employees, including our president, vice president of estimat- ing, and vice president of operations, either lost a home or have been unable to return due to the Palisades Fire. Virtu- ally every employee in our Venice office knew someone that was affected by the fire, whether a family member, college friend, client, or trade partner. Like thousands of other families, our people and those close to them were suddenly forced to live in hotels, or short- term rentals, or even sleep on a couch in the home of a friend. upheaval for the victims of these fires, the fires caused massive uncertainty and confusion about the future. “Where do I live now? Where do my kids go to school? Do I have the right insurance coverage? Is there enough insurance? Will I have enough money to rebuild? How do I rebuild?” There is a saying, “If not me, who?
If not now, when?” Every company is a representation of the values and beliefs of its leaders and employees, and the fires were a call to action to Build Group to assist others in need of help. Countless people are assisting Los
Angeles fire victims, and their selflessness is inspiring. It’s a true testament to the goodness we have in all of us. We had
