and consultant leading companies through software implementations and trainings, Troy DeGroot has seen first- hand how construction technology has evolved over the years to meet changing industry needs. For the last several years DeGroot


has leveraged his extensive experience, deep knowledge of various construction software platforms and ability to effec- tively engage with busy architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) professionals as a leading instructor on AGC of California’s online training platform. He teaches a recurring series

of courses on Bluebeam, construction estimating and various other offerings for AGC of California as well as several other AGC chapters across the nation. DeGroot got his start in the AEC in-


dustry approximately 30 years ago, when he joined a large engineering company to do 2D drafting work straight out of drafting school, before AutoCAD and BIM had taken hold in the marketplace. He always had a gift to visualize things in 3D, however. “I remember drawing really rough 3D buildings when I was in like second grade,” he commented. Moving over to 3D platforms such as


CAD, AutoCAD and Revit was something that came naturally to DeGroot, and he worked his way into a BIM manager
