February 21, 1937 – August 28, 2024 Beatrice Burge Negus passed on
August 28, 2024, leaving a void where this very special woman lived. Bea, as she was known to many, was born February 21,1937, in Terra Alta, WV, to her early years in Washington, DC, moving with her family at age 12 to Arlington, VA, where she graduated from Washington and Lee High School. She shared childhood memories of being a big sister, playing basketball, roller skating with friends, and visiting the sites in Washington. Bea’s partnership with her beloved husband, Bob, was
evident to all who knew them. It was after they were married that she started a decades long career in the carnival business. Bob and Bea worked with Del & Travers Shows, World of Mirth Shows, Coleman Brothers Shows, James E Strates Shows, Deggeller Shows, and Conklin Shows. When Bob passed away in 1998, Bea continued her work with the fairs, including North American Midway Entertainment where she undertook the role of taking care of and entertaining fair boards until her retirement in 2011. She was dearly loved and respected throughout her long career in the carnival industry and always spoke with the greatest fondness of the lifelong friendships and unique memories she made during the course of her profession. Bea’s favorite role was that of grandmother and
great-grandmother. As the matriarch of the family, Bea was
felt by her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; she was their biggest fan, helper, and support. Whether it was cheering on the sidelines of a game, at the kitchen counter preparing a meal, folding laundry, or shopping for supplies, there was no doubt that Grammy lived to love giving her time and energy to help out anywhere she could, showering everyone with her love and kindness. Bea is survived by daughter Buni (Paul) Lombard, of
Ocala, FL, daughter Elizabeth Gray of Ocklawaha, FL, and a beloved brother, Eston Burge of (Alleghany County, VA); grandchildren, Tyler (CJ) and Ashlee (Tyler) Emmons, Cameron Gray, Lindsey and Emily Lombard, all of Ocala, FL; great grandchildren, Elijah and Samuel Emmons, Wyatt and Eston Frazee, and Atlas Gray. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Negus, her parents, Eston and Marie Burge, sisters, Rosemarie Polk and Bobbi Lefavor, and grandson Ryan Gray.
