The Flying High Circus of Florida State University is
still in the recovery stage after a devasting tornado demol- ished its Big Top tent and circus equipment. The recovery, centered around a new Italian-designed and constructed canvas, is on schedule and is expected to be completed for a Fall 2025 opening. So far, repairs have amounted to approximately $850,000. Four circus wagons have been added to Circus World Museum’s collection of more than 250 historic circus wag- ons, deeming CWM’s collection of wagons the largest in the world. The most celebrated wagon returning to Baraboo (WI) is theRingling Bros. Bell Wagon, described as a “19th-centu- ry wagon featuring nine bells weighing about 4,300 pounds.” The remaining three wagons are: the 1905 Hagenbeck- Wallace Lion’s Bride Tableau Wagon; the 20th-century John Robinson Bandwagon No. 1; and the 1903 Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Hippo Cage Wagon No. 73. And lastly (and perhaps least), the Flotsam Floating
Circus, a rag-tag group of musicians calling themselves a circus afloat on a raft, will be performing on docks along the Erie Canal this month in a Bicentennial Celebration. Obviously, there are untold ways in which to celebrate the circus!
