Comparing ESG Reports In one instance, Lampf uploaded sustainability reports from his company and two competitors and delivered the following prompts to the AI program: Prompt 1: Compare these two sustainability reports [from competi- tors] and in a table identify the common topics that are discussed. Prompt 2: Act as an expert governance professional who specializes in sustainability topics for public companies. Which of the topics above are among the most important? Prompt 3: Consider that these are technology companies. How does that impact your response? Prompt 4: Now compare the first table to Ciena’s sustainability report. Include a third column entitled “Ciena.” Identify the areas where Ciena does not discuss the mentioned topics. Prompt 5: I am interested in who is responsible for ESG oversight at our two competitors. Prompt 6: Create a table that includes the three companies and identifies their respective targets and goals. mation and we used the public version of ChatGPT. So obviously you want to be careful what you use unless you are using one of the newer, more secure enterprise versions. “We asked ChatGPT to act in a certain persona, which is a very
specific way of prompting this tool. Tat surfaced some initial ideas and comparisons that way. Ten we started going from general prompts to more specific prompts, which I recommend. Tis ap- proach may reveal some ideas and conversation that could go in a couple of different directions.” Asking ChatGPT to organize the information in a table made it easier to see the results as compared to reviewing an extended amount of text. “In Prompt 5 I did a bit of an offshoot, asking who is responsible for ESG oversight at our two competitors,” Lampf added. “I want
