ecently, SIR and SIR Foundation approved a new 5-year strategic plan that will serve as a road map for our future. With


this strategic plan, we are narrowing our focus and building infrastructure that will allow interventional radiology to not only be ready for whatever the future of healthcare brings but also position our members to be leaders in care.


The new plan focuses on three key areas: operational excellence, defi ning the value of IR, and expanding visibility and access to IR care. This strategy is more than a plan: it is a commitment to our members and the broader healthcare community.


Operational excellence The fi rst step of the new plan is to make SIR and SIR Foundation more nimble, effi cient and aligned with what members need, be it through programs, services or day-to-day operations. Members will benefi t from streamlined, strategic programs that are built around your needs, and will receive consistent communication from leadership and staff .


Operational excellence also ensures representation for all our members. In keeping with our updated governance structure, SIR and SIR Foundation are reiterating a commitment to transparent, two-way communication channels across all our working bodies, whether it’s staff , committees, volunteers or leadership. With this, we are striving for inclusive and accurate practice representations across our decision-making, resource-creating and advocacy bodies.

Demonstrating the value of IR So much of our mission relies on demonstrating the value of IR therapies to patients, policymakers and the broader medical community. When we can eff ectively communicate the daily impact that IR has on the healthcare landscape, we are better able to expand access to care, advocate for our members and ensure fair compensation. In addition, we want to empower you with the data and resources to advocate on your own behalf for your patients and businesses. With these resources, you will be equipped to tell your own story, showcasing your role in improving outcomes and leading minimally invasive care.


In order to do this, we need member collaboration. Whether that looks like gathering data for VIRTEX or sharing your practice experiences with stakeholders, we want to ensure that every member has a seat at the table.


Leading the future of IR In the road map of this strategic plan, leading the future of IR is the end goal. IR is well situated to be a key player


in the future of healthcare outcomes and delivery, with a particular focus on patient outcomes and improved health economics—the two drivers of the current healthcare landscape.


In order to put IR at the forefront of that landscape, SIR and SIR Foundation are working to improve awareness and recognition of IR expertise across key stakeholders, like policymakers, administrators and referral sources. We want to put a spotlight on IR within the healthcare system and give you the tools and support to be leaders in longitudinal care.


With this new strategic plan, we are putting a laser focus on the diversity and value of IR practice—and handing you, our members, the resources to succeed in that spotlight. Both the volunteer leadership and staff of SIR and SIR Foundation are engaged in and excited by this plan. We are fully invested in creating and driving projects that are in alignment with this road map and are eager for your help in making it come to fruition. You are part of an ever- growing specialty with staying power, and we are dedicated to creating a sustainable, ambitious society that will grow and lead with you.
