Types of Interior Lighting As mentioned earlier, there are 3 common categories of
Incandescent PROS – This has been the standard light bulb for many years. Easy to replace. They typically come in soft white color and are available in many different wattages.
− CONS – They use much more energy than have a shorter lifespan.
Incandescent bulbs have a shorter lifespan and use much more energy.
Ballasted Compact Fluorescent tube 9 watt bulbs to triple tube, 4 pin 26 watt bulbs. These are also commonly found in parking garages as 4 foot PROS – Easy to replace, just pull the old bulb out and push the new one in until it clicks. They offer several color ranges. They have a longer lifespan the incandescent and provide the same lumens from a 23 watt bulb that a 100 watt incandescent would produce.
− CONS – The have a small internal ballast that is hard expensive to replace if it goes out. Also, you can’t just pop a brighter bulb in if you want more light. You environmentally friendly as other technologies.
Fluorescent lights are commonly found in parking garages.

Non-Ballasted Compact Fluorescent incandescent bulbs. They look like a spiral light bulb with need ballasts. Screw in bulbs have their ballasts built into the base of the bulbs which is why they can be used in a Perhaps to deter people from taking them for use in their homes? PROS – Easy to replace, they just screw in and out of any standard bulb receptacle. They offer several color ranges. They have a longer lifespan the incandescent bulb and provide the same lumens (light output) from a 13 watt bulb that a 60 watt incandescent would produce.
− CONS – Not as environmentally friendly as other technologies. Newer LED bulbs are now replacing these.
LED smart bulbs can be switched on/off or change colors with your smartphone, Alexa, etc.
LED Bulbs These have become a very common screw in type bulbs. They look very similar to a standard incandescent bulb. Also available in GU Base. PROS – Easy to replace, they just screw in and out of any standard bulb receptacle. They offer several color ranges. They have a longer lifespan and provide the same light for even less power. A typical LED bulb uses about 9 watts for a 60 watt equivalent incandescent bulb! You can buy a smart bulb version and have all kinds of fun turning them on and off and changing colors with your smartphone, Alexa, etc.
− CONS – They cost a little more, but prices continue to come down.
