President’s Message

Hello WSCAI Members! Spring is right around the corner, and soon it will be time to get out and start our landscaping projects. This month’s Journal features all the

articles you’ll need to get on the right track! You’ll want to read about the latest landscaping trends, irrigation efficiencies, safety standards for your pools and ponds, and learn about where to plant your trees in just the right locations.

Are you ready to “spring” into action? Do you know we have 12 very active committees and a few task forces that work diligently to make our Chapter thrive? If you’re interested in getting more involved, go to our website and check out what we’re working on and see if there’s some group you might want to join.

We have three committees that work to produce our trade shows that include a variety of classes and a chance to meet our Business Partners. These committees include Law Day, Made for Managers Day, and CA Day. We have a Social Committee that plans our Golf Tournament and our Annual Awards Gala. Our Legislative Action Committee (LAC) works hard every week to analyze pending bills that may affect our communities and work with our lobbyist to advance the interests of our members in Olympia. LAC is a National Committee which means the application process is different than our Chapter committees. The Communications Committee determines the excellent content for issues of the Journal you’re reading. The Community Outreach Committee helps support several charities throughout the year. Read Lisa Hanses’ great article in this issue about how you can help support the Ronald McDonald House Charities from your home. The ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Committee members help operate the Mediation Program, which features trained facilitators who can help resolve disputes within a community. The Business Partners Committee works to improve networking between members. The Managers Only Meetings (MOM) Committee creates monthly educational opportunities for Community Association Managers. The Education Committee helps develop relevant educational content including webinars, Chapter Luncheons and the Board Leadership Development Workshop (BLDW). As I have stated before, my personal goal this year is to work with our Membership Committee to gain more members for our Chapter.

6 Community Associations Journal | March 2022 A pond Jackie and Danny visited while hiking with their dogs.

There is no better way to become an expert in the community you live or work in than to belong to an industry group that specializes in community association education.

The first trade show of the year is Law Day, providing legal education for board members and managers. It will be held on April 30th at the Lynnwood Convention Center. Stay tuned for information to sign up for this event so you can keep up to date on the important legal issues that could affect your community.

Every month WSCAI offers educational opportunities for homeowners and board members through our 2022 webinar series. We want to help educate as many board members and homeowners at an affordable price by providing the following opportunity:

When a community has a WSCAI membership of 3-15 members, the association can purchase the 2022 monthly webinar series for $185 permitting all WSCAI members in that community to participate for no additional cost. Example: If an association has a 7-member board and they purchase the series, all seven can participate each month bringing the average cost per person to $2.20 per webinar. (Previous month’s recordings included.)

We also offer a Board Leader Development Workshop that is a five-week series that helps owners become more successful board members. The next session starts April 6th.

The photo I included with my column this month is a pond we encountered while hiking with our dogs recently. February surprised us with some sunny weekends. I even planted some primroses so I can see the pop of color when I drive up the driveway. It’s great to get outside, away from our computers and breathe in the fresh air. Soon the trees will be bursting with color. I can’t wait!

All my best, Jackie Davis, Chapter President (206) 507-4191 | Jackie.Davis@goblusky.com
