FOCUS THE OSCPA TRAILBLAZER AND PATHFINDER AWARDS
RACHEL DOMNICK, CPA
INSTRUCTOR OF PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE OKLAHOMA STATE UNIVERSITY
RACHEL DOMNICK, CPA, has been a professor at Oklahoma State University (OSU) for the past six years. Not only is she a dedicated educator who is passionate about her work, she is also a change-maker helping to spearhead the University’s tribal accounting programs to prepare future CPAs to meet the needs of our state’s unique culture.
OSCPA: How are you creating an impact on the community and the CPA profession:
RD: In 2017, OSU’s Spears School of Business (SSB) Center for the Future of Work (CFW) began work on an initiative to provide tribal finance and accounting noncredit instruction to support OSU’s land-grant mission of outreach, engagement and research to the 38 Native American tribes. Since it originated in 2017, I have been instrumental in creating the CFW tribal finance and accounting programs. I have served as a member of the OSU Tribal Finance and Accounting Advisory Board, the Introductory Program faculty facilitator and program instructor since 2018. In my instructor role for the Tribal Finance and Accounting Introductory Program, I’ve taught more than 300 participants in both the live and online course offerings.
OSCPA: What motivated you to get involved?
RD: Before working at OSU, my professional experience focused on providing auditing services to primarily governmental and not-for- profit entities. Tis experience led me to teach accounting for governmental and not-for-profit entities at OSU

and, ultimately, my involvement with the OSU SSB tribal initiatives. My motivation to get involved stemmed from my history and desire for engagement in my community, especially here, where the initiative makes a real impact in an area of need. I feel fortunate to be a part of the OSU CFW’s involvement with tribal programs; it continues to be an incredible experience.
OSCPA: Where do you see your career in five years?
RD: I LOVE my job. Since joining the faculty in 2017, my objective has been to be more than an instructor. I want to be a trusted advisor, a mentor, a coach and a friend. My priority is to create an environment where students feel safe and loved so they can learn. Only then I can truly serve as a resource for students’ successes. I recognize that success means something different to every individual. I want to connect with each student and meet them where they are to help them learn and help them achieve their goals. I feel privileged to work at OSU in a job that I love, and in five years, I hope to continue to have the opportunity to be doing what I love.
