WINNING ENTRY { ANIMALS } BREAKFAST SHAD by Dr. Jack Backs, Hermann
THE “ANIMALS” CATEGORY HAD 15 ENTRIES. The category is always popular and allows members to showcase images of insects, birds, fish, mammals ... any wild or domesticated member of the great animal kingdom. This year’s winner was Dr. Jack Backs (SIU 89) who has a general practice in Hermann, Mo. “This image of a Ring-billed Gull was taken at August Busch Memorial Conservation Area,”
said Dr. Backs. “These birds over winter at the largest lake. It was an early November morning with calm water and the winter brown foliage reflecting off the surface. This was the best image of a 15-shot sequence of the bird diving for a fish.” Congratulations to Dr. Backs for his other winning entries this year: Second place for both his People entry, Catching Air and his Open entry, Shoot for the Moon; and, Honorable Mention for his Color entry, Monarch Butterfly. Members—don’t miss entering your images for the 2021 contest, which are due Wednesday, December 23.
