The Human Interest category included pictures of people in all walks of life and doing all types of activities ... individuals, couples and families, babies and children, young and old. Dr. Killip took this photo in Katmandu, Nepal, while on a medical/dental outreach trip sponsored by the World Outreach Foundation. “Dr. Jack Nelson and I were the dentists on this trip. We spent one week in the villages of Lomsong and Tukchee, Nepal providing dental care for the people surrounding those communities,” he said. Dr. Killip has been photographing for at least 20 years and is principally self-taught. He shoots a Nikon D-700, and says about this photo, “A garland made of mango and marigold is used as a torana in Hindu homes (torana means ‘gateway’ in Sanskrit). In other words, the garland is tied to the frame of the main door of the house and is changed on every festive occasion. Given the number of Hindu festivals, you can be sure that the garland changes frequently.”
