he MDA Focus is pleased to announce its second annual photo contest exclusively for MDA dentist and student members. The contest prizes are being sponsored by Missouri Dental Insurance Services (MDIS) and Lands’ End Business Outfitters.
Cte Overview A first and second place prize will be awarded in each of the following six categories (see descriptions in the next column):
1. Human Interest 2. Travel & Place 3. Outdoor Beauty 4. Digital Darkroom 5. All Creatures Great & Small 6. Uniquely Missouri
Members may submit one entry per category, for a total of six entries per member. A $150 cash prize, sponsored by MDIS, will be awarded to winners in each category and a $50 Lands’ End Business Outfitters gift card will be awarded to each category runner-up to use for purchasing MDA apparel items from Lands’ End Business Outfitters or other items from their family of online stores.
Last year’s contest showcased so many great photographers within our membership,” said Vicki Wilbers, MDA Executive Director. “We had great participation, so we hope to make it an annual event.”
All winners will appear in a special photo gallery in the January 2014 issue of the MDA Focus. As well, each issue of the 2014 Focus will feature a category winner on the cover, along with a more detailed member bio and picture description to accompany it—similar to what has been done thus far in 2013.
The deadline for all entries is Tuesday, December 31, 2013. The contest will be judged by a special panel to be determined by the MDA editorial team. Read on for category details, how to enter and the fine print (rules).
Category Descripti
Human Interest: Includes pictures of people in all walks of life and doing all types of activities … individuals, couples and families, babies and children, young and old.
Travel & Places: Includes pictures that express the adventures of travel. This can include outdoor scenes, but also people, details and other subjects you might encounter while traveling. The main purpose for photos in this category is they express a sense of place—something unique to your travel experience.
Outdoor Beauty: Includes pictures of nature and the outdoors … of land, sea or sky. These images showcase outdoor beauty. We request any animal pictures be submitted in the All Creatures Great & Small category.
Digital Darkroom: For photos which do not show the image in its “straight-out-of-the-camera”, natural way and thus convert the photo into art through “digital darkroom” alteration with software like Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom or other programs. Very slightly
