First Successful Crossover Is Most Powerful of All

spanning eight months, in Alpha. Her crossovers were holding her back, her class instructor said, because she was not able to cross her feet at all. Truth be told, she had trouble gliding on one foot. Her mom figured it was time to try private lessons for personal attention to ease her daughter’s frustration.

T ONLY 7 years old, the new skater was enduring her third session,
Her new coach skated over
to introduce herself as the young skater worked diligently on her crossovers, hands stuck to the wall for support.
“Will you show me how your
crossover works off the wall?” asked the coach. Nodding her head, the skater shuffled to the center circle and picked up her right foot, only to set it back down to a two-foot glide. Again and again, she lifted her foot with the intention to cross it into
the circle, but something kept her from completing the cross.
“Are you nervous about
falling?” asked her coach. She shook her head “no,” yet was grateful for the offer of her coach’s hand for security. Holding a hand, her crossovers progressed with ease. Given the opportunity to let go and try on her own, her foot refused to cross.
