N LIGHT OF our new policy of requiring Administrative members to register all ISI program participants as ISI Individual members, we polled several arenas to get their thoughts on how

they have incorporated the registration fee into their program and how it has benefited them. Te majority of the polled arenas were already registering skaters prior to our Sept. 1 mandate. We hope their feedback proves useful to those adjusting to this new policy. As always, please call the ISI office at 972-735-8800 for assistance with this process. We are here to help you!

Q: WHEN DID YOU INSTITUTE ISI INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP?

BAKER: We first started requiring all of our learn-to-skate students to be ISI Individual members with the start of our Aug. 15, 2017 session.

HARDIN: We started including ISI membership for all skaters who enrolled in our group classes in Sept. 2016.

HARTON: 2001 to the best of my recollection. SCOTT: Since 1998. We have always registered our class skaters. STROH: When the rink opened 15 years ago.

TEODORO-FORBES: We instituted membership for all learn-to-skate participants in 2000.

Q: HOW IS IT BENEFICIAL? BAKER: Requiring all of our skaters to be Individual members makes test registrations much easier. If the skater is in our skating school, then they are a member. We are also including the skaters test registration fee and ISI Test Patch in our tuition. Tis will make future ISI competitions much easier. Te ISI office staff should see only a few issues from our rink in their ISI competition audit report. Tis will make competition time easier for us all.

HARDIN: It helps us keep our records straight for tests, shows and competitions. Before, we were constantly double-checking to see if skaters’ memberships were up-to-date for ISI-endorsed events and having to nudge the skater or parent to renew. It also helps that we can record basic level skaters’ test results now that they are members. We have seen an increase in participation in competitions and shows since we started this, so ISI communications to our skaters undoubtedly encourages greater participation in our special ISI programs!

HARTON: From a facility standpoint, it provides a layer of liability protection. From a program standpoint, it introduces the skater to a great organization that promotes skating. Tis includes the curriculum our skating school uses and ISI events the department promotes. It jump starts them into all the ISI activities and starts that process of a greater commitment to the sport. Running our programs under the ISI umbrella gives them credibility and helps the parent to feel that there is a solid organization behind how we deliver these programs and events. Te skater has access to all the shows and competitions available, added accident insurance and the sense of belonging to an official skating community.

I can’t say enough about what the ISI has done to help TSC

build its programs and events. Te attitude of support and exchange of information has enabled me and the facility to excel and see great success. It is hard to imagine where we would have been without the help and tools the ISI has provided. It is the most turn-key program in the industry for learn to skate and for learn-to-skate competitions. Te clear cut, simple structure makes it easy for both new skaters and instructors to engage — by far the simplest program for a facility to run and participate in. It is exciting to see the changes and effort taking place to move the ISI into the future. I hope that all the success we have enjoyed, due to the efforts of the ISI, is returned to the organization ten-fold!
