DISTRICT AND ASSOCIATION UPDATES ISI DISTRICT 1

(CONNECTICUT, MASSACHUSETTS, MAINE, NEW HAMPSHIRE, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT) by Alane Swiderski, District Director

Our District 1 Championships held June 23-25 in Boxborough, Mass. was a great success! Congrats to the following teams: Winterland Skating School, 1st place champion; Nashoba Valley ISI, 2nd place overall; FMC Natick, 3rd place overall; and FMC Taunton, Percentage Trophy Winner.

Thanks to all the participants, coaches and parents for their involvement and to the volunteers and judges who donated their time. We couldn’t do events like this without them! Also, special thanks to amazing competition director Barbara Allinson, Lisa Cote and the wonderful staff at the Nashoba Valley Olympia Skating Arena for being gracious hosts. We hope everyone had a wonderful time. Please look for the full list of overall team placement and skater awards, including graduating seniors, high-level tests passed and Good Sport awards to be posted on the ISI District 1 website.

We kicked off our seminar series on Nov. 4 with a session in Attleboro, Mass. for coaches new to ISI and/or certified through bronze level. In December, we’ll host an event for competition directors to learn the Edge software and Entry Eeze. A seminar for all coaches and our annual awards ceremony will take place in January, followed by a judge’s workshop in April.

At the January awards ceremony, we’ll present our District 1 Professional Awards, including The Love of the Sport Award, Sky Full of Stars Award, Coach and Director of the Year and the District Merit Award. We hope to see a great turnout for all of these events. Please visit isidistrict1.com for more information.

We have a full slate of competitions for the 2017-18 season, which began with Winterland’s Halloween Classic competition on Oct. 28 and ends with Winterland hosting our District Championships in June. As ISI District 1 is hosting the 2018 ISI Worlds, we have many teams making plans to ensure a wonderful District 1 showing and welcome. We hope to see teams from all districts!

The MIRMA fall managers/operations seminar, hosted by New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow, took place Oct. 17 at Northwell Health Ice Center in East Meadow, N.Y. ISI President Rob McBride and ISI 2nd

Vice President Lisa Fedick were guest speakers.

The District 3 2017-18 calendar is set for the season. We are still determining the location for our ISI/MIRMA District 3 Champs in April and hope to have a location set by the fall MIRMA meeting.

District 3 is excited for the upcoming ISI Conference Champs in June and the ISI World Recreational Team Championships in July. We are right in the thick of things this year and hope to represent the district strongly at our two local national events.
