DISTRICT UPDATES ISI DISTRICT 10

(IOWA, MINNESOTA, NEBRASKA, NORTH DAKOTA, SOUTH DAKOTA, WISCONSIN) by Jane Schaber, District Director

We are well into our competition and programming season in District 10. Enthusiasm seems to continue building, and hopefully we will see even more growth brought on with “Olympic fever” over the extended time.

We held a successful joint ISI District Seminar with PSA in September with 68 attendees for the ISI

portion of the day. Diane Miller provided a lot of great information and Kelly Corcoran’s choreography session was excellent. We look forward to having Kelly present both on- and off-ice at the ISI Conference & Trade Show in the Washington, D.C. area this June.

While there are still some questions coming forth about the “new” requirements regarding Individual memberships and test registrations, most rinks are finding it easy to implement processes to make this happen — and most have responded that it wasn’t as difficult to do as they had originally thought.

We are excited to bring back another national event to District 10, with the 2019 ISI Synchronized Skating Championships. This event will be hosted at the Doug Woog Ice Arena in South St. Paul, Minn., where we recently hosted the 2017 ISI Conference Champs. If your facility doesn’t currently have a synchro line, now would be a great time to start a new program within your facility with the goal of competing in this great event!

To have your District 10 rink featured in the next ISI EDGE, please send your news to JSchaber@superrink.org.

The District 11 Seminar was held Nov. 9 at Dr Pepper StarCenter in Farmers Branch, Texas. The district was fortunate to have Rob McBride, Liz Mangelsdorf, David Santee and Roger Morris speak at this year’s seminar; we had our own “mini” conference. All the speakers were well received.

ICE at The Parks in Arlington, Texas, hosted their annual “Holiday at the Parks” show on Dec. 16. Two hundred-plus skaters participated in this annual show. Learn-To-Skate students performed class group routines. ICE at The Parks currently has three synchronized teams: Jr Sparklerettes, Sr Sparklerettes and the Southwest Sparklers. These teams skated in the holiday show. In addition, there were many solo, couple and ensemble performances. “Holiday at the Parks” is a family favorite holiday event!

Andrea Larson, skating school director, reports that the 7th annual ISI-

endorsed “Holidays on Ice” show was held on Dec. 3 at the Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas. The Allen Academy of Skating and Figure Skating Program had 95 students participate. The show was free for all. In attendance were 739 spectators. In an effort to raise donations for Allen Community Outreach, non-perishable items were collected at the front door. This event raised 1,135 pounds of food to help so many in need!

The Allen Academy of Skating and Allen Community Ice Rink skaters performed in “Holidays on Ice” on Dec. 3.

The El Paso Figure Skating Club hosted their Christmas show, “Holidays Around the World,” on Dec. 15, according to skating school director Sandra Pelko.
