“ Katy was my mentor and friend who gave me the best personal, as well as professional, advice. The advice that I carry into my new role: Surround myself with people who will make me better. The coaches that work at Winterland are awesome and have been an incredible support. We just competed at District Champs, bringing home the 3rd

place team trophy. Parents, skaters, coaches all working together — Katy’s legacy — The Winterland Way!”

The Beginning

Mary began skating after a friend took her to a Bring a Friend Learn-to-Skate Session. “I grew up with five brothers and my parents thought it would be a great way to socialize with other girls … I started working in the industry as a skating instructor shortly after graduating from college.”

Group Hug — A Winterland Tradition!

“When things get rough at practice, a group hug makes it better! We always end with a group hug, but some of the girls like to break up the practices with them, too!”

Words of Wisdom

“TeamWork Makes Te Dream Work.” “Our skaters work together, build long- lasting friendships and share a loving camaraderie.” “Te Winterland Way” — Strong,

Resilient, Hard Working, Positive. Show good sportsmanship and always respect other skaters. “Tis attitude provides a safe atmosphere

for all of our skaters and makes for so much fun with everything we do.”

Most Interesting Moments

“My most interesting moments are when I am working with our synchro teams (Te Winterettes). I enjoy the dynamics of a team and I feel skaters learn so many life lessons while working as a team. Tere is no `I’ in team, just young ladies working together, accepting and respecting their differences, working toward a common goal and helping each other reach their goals — skills to carry our skaters through life.” Mary enjoys watching her sons, Sam

and Harry, play hockey. “Being a ‘hockey mom’ consumes many hours!” Sam just completed a post graduate

year at Brighton Academy where he placed on the junior team. He will attend Bridgwater State University in the fall. Harry, a high school freshman, plays for the South Shore Eagles and Bay State Breakers, both in Rockland.
