District & Association Updates

ISI District 1 (Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont) by Alane Swiderski, District Director

Spring 2016 saw a more usual competition line up, a welcome return to a regular competition routine for District 1. Tank you to all of the competition directors for hosting these events and all of the clubs and skaters who supported them. Tey wouldn’t be successful — or as fun — without all of

your hard work and effort. District 1 Championships was held June 23-26 at the

William L. Chase Arena in Natick, Mass. Skaters, spectators and coaches all enjoyed the masquerade theme and especially the Find the Flamingo Scavenger Hunt, which generated a lot of social media traffic and a great atmosphere. Special thanks to Donna Rozon and her family and staff for all of their hard work, time and dedication to make this event so special. At press time, plans are underway for a half-day seminar

on Sunday, Aug. 21, at the Nashoba Valley Olympia Rink in Boxborough, Mass., and an Awards Luncheon/Professional Skating Summit to follow at the Maynard Elks Club in Concord, Mass. District 1 Professional Awards recipients for the Sky Full of Stars Award, Coach and Director of the Year and the District Merit Award will be announced and presented at the awards luncheon. Invitations and agendas will be emailed and posted on the District 1 website soon. Te current District 1 credential policy will continue with

new credentials being issued and the much awaited team registration. Tis will allow a skating or program director to register their coaches for the entire year in exchange for owning any judging or volunteer assignments given to their team. Details will be released on the District 1 website and presented at the Aug. 21 seminar. District 1 is looking forward to a successful 2016-17 season.

ISI District 8 (Chicago/Milwaukee Metropolitan Area) by Vicky Klinko-Osseland, District Director

As the new District 8 representative, I would like to thank Amy Forbes for all that she has done for the district in the past few years. Amy will continue to be a part of the board, as education chair. We are lucky to have her share her passion by planning educational opportunities for our district.

34 District 8 has had a busy summer — both of our summer

competitions (School’s Out at the McFetridge Ice Arena, and Mid-Summer Classic at Centennial Wilmette) had higher numbers than years past. After hosting ISI Worlds last summer, several of the District 8 rinks still have the “Worlds buzz” and attended this year’s event in Minnesota. It was a great way for all of these rinks to keep their programming going through the summer and receive some extra revenue. Tanks American Heartland Ice Arena, Edge Ice Arena, Franklin Park Ice Arena, Inwood Ice Arena Joliet, Niles Iceland, Oakton Ice Arena and Superstars Figure Skating Club for representing our district in Blaine!
