TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN CONSTRUCTION

The HCSS Trucking dashboard allows users to customize how they see real- time truck data.

the HCSS Trucking mobile app so ticket writers can see and log incoming trucks to speed up the ticket writing process. Tey can also help reduce fraudulent or incorrect tickets by adding another timestamp in truck cycle times, allowing the broker or owner to compare multiple truck cycles in the Trucking Manager. If one truck’s cycles are not similar to the other trucks operating the same job, then a problem or fraudulent load can

be identified, according to HCSS. Data is automatically collected

by the app and the LoadBot in the field and then sent up to the cloud servers, where it can be viewed by the contractor and broker and sent over to the owner.

Consolidation of Technologies for Single Solution

Josh McDonald, R&D product development manager for HCSS, said

the system’s consolidation of different technologies enables data sharing between multiple parties, providing a benefit to all involved. “We’re sharing data between the contractor and the broker and even the owner of the job in some cases in order to bring everybody together,” he noted. In fact, it was the challenge of

finding a single solution that could be implemented across the multiple types of companies involved in the construction-related trucking industry that spurred the development of HCSS Trucking, McDonald said. “We really honed in on two big

hurdles within our industry,” he said. “One is how do we cross different relationships like say contractor to trucker to broker and onto the owner; how do we navigate different relation- ships and create solutions that really benefit the entire group of people that are part of this industry?” Te other big hurdle: how to create and encourage adoption of a single solution across those ranks on all different levels. “I think a lot of it has to do with

recognizing where the industry is and not trying to force something – to recognize there are a lot of contractors that are really trying to push the technology envelope, but often truck drivers are not in that same mentality, while brokers are kind of stuck in the middle,” McDonald added. “It is
