Advocacy – the Cornerstone of AGC
for the construction industry to make their voice heard. Every day, govern- ments at all levels are working to push a vision for the future, but without our voice, that vision is one without us and without our needs. Advocacy is a critical component
W
of ensuring we have a seat at the table. Te saying goes, “If you’re not at the table, you’re on the menu.” AGC of California is proud of the advocacy work we provide for our members and the industry, but when more than 80 contractors and industry partners are walking the halls and meeting with over 35 legislators, we are making an impact. Our industry is one of the largest
industries and job creators in the state of California. Because of that, we have a responsibility to help decision makers at all levels understand how laws and regulations impact our ability to build and create jobs. Too often, lawmakers forget about the unintended consequences of their legislation or ordinances. We as an industry must present our concerns and push for better legislation to promote more opportunities for our industry. One such example of where our
industry pushed for greater oppor- tunities was with SB 1 last year. Pushing for long-term infrastructure investments for our state ensures a stronger California and a stronger construction industry. One cannot happen without the other, and in truth, without construction, there is no California. And though we secured a victory with SB 1 last year, we are now faced with a fight we did not ask for. Partisan politics have now thrust us into a political fight that will determine whether or not California will have a

vibrant future or one with continued decay. AGC of
California has joined the coalition to fight the repeal of SB 1. Tose who would gut over $5 billion in annual infrastructure funding must be stopped, and as an industry, we can win this fight. But it will take everyone’s investment of both time and treasure. We need all companies who are part of the construction industry, no matter the work they do to build or support, to join the fight and educate their employees, colleagues, friends and their families about the importance of SB 1 and why we must stop the repeal. Additionally, every company needs
to support the campaign financially to ensure that we can educate the people of California who have been waiting for decades for major investments in their roads, highways, bridges, and transit systems. California has crumbled for far too long and we must engage and win this fight. AGC of California is asking all of you to join us: stand with California’s future and realize the California dream. Whether we walk the halls to push
legislation, fight bad regulations, or fight off poor propositions, advocacy is a cornerstone of AGC of California. We believe that construction is vital to the success of California and that together, with our members, we will create opportunities to build and strengthen our state.
