Art along trails The newest American Trails gallery of photos on trail topics illustrates art on trails. Murals, sculptures, and deco- rative paving can all be ways of enhanc- ing trails with art. Art can celebrate his- tory, as sculptures at National Historic Trail sites. Art can also add richness to the historic elements that have been


preserved along with trail corridors. Images of former railroads and the urban past have inspired art along rail trails. Some trails wind through indus- trial areas where murals add interest to walls and bridges. Art can be a way of involving more of the community in trails, and schools have also taken on an artistic project for a greenway.

Program Annual Report The most recent report on the


Recreational Trails Program (RTP) pro- vides a useful guide to the program for trail managers and the public. It high- lights funding and administration, the RTP Database, and project examples from across the country. A number of program benefits are discussed in detail:                   Tables show the RTP funding for each State since 1993 as well as funds currently available for trail grants. Of the projects completed between 1993 and 2018, total funds apportioned in the RTP was over $1.47 billion with additional matching funds of $971 mil- lion, showing that RTP dollars were matched by 66 percent with other funds.
