MBA Target Banker

members at our banks, the better our chances of passing legislation benefiting our customers or defeating measures that would be detrimental to our industry.

Now, some of you may be thinking why you should even bother with Target Banker visits. Your reasons may vary — don’t have time to spend a day away from the bank right now, short staffed at the bank, why drive to Jefferson City when I can talk with my rep and senator here at home, there’s someone else better than me to talk about the bills, hate politics — but it’s only hurting your customers and communities. And, quite frankly, it’s hurting my bank and my customers.

When you decide not to share your concerns with lawmakers, it hurts our association and industry. Tat’s one less voice for our

customers and communities and when more bankers remain quiet, that silence can result in severe repercussions. Our banks may be competitors, but we need each other if we want to succeed in our advocacy efforts.

Tis year, I challenge every bank to participate in MBA’s Target Banker program. Imagine the impact of our association and our industry if every bank committed to visiting with their state legislators at the Missouri Capitol. Lawmakers already trust the knowledge and honesty of MBA; these visits strengthen that reputation. I’ll be bold and go one step further in challenging every bank to have future leaders engage in these visits. As presidents and CEOs of our banks, we must ensure the next men and women leading our banks are connected to our state lawmakers …

this is vital in ensuring our customers have the financial resources and services they need and that our communities are supported by thriving local economies.

David Kent and Emily Lewis, along with the entire MBA staff, look forward to welcoming you for Target Banker visits. To learn more or to schedule your appointment, call 573-636- 8151 or visit mobankers.com. I’ll be visiting the Capitol, and my staff will be making visits, too. It is my sincere hope you commit to a Target Banker visit. Working together, we will make certain that lawmakers hear our collective voice.
