Taking Care of Business
Persistent. It’s a characteristic that’s imperative in advocacy — always rallying support for your cause. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that it also accurately describes Craig Overfelt, senior vice president of the Missouri Bankers Association.
For the past two decades, Overfelt has contributed greatly to the success of the association’s legislative mission at the Missouri Capitol. At the end of 2021, Overfelt is retiring from MBA after 20 years of dedicated service. As we extend our best wishes to Overfelt, we thank him for his work for the banking community.
ALL IN THE FAMILY
Overfelt didn’t aspire to have a career in lobbying, but it came naturally to him. His father, Sam, served as a lobbyist and chief legal counsel for Missouri Gov. John Dalton in the early 1960s. His father was named president of the Missouri Retailers Association in 1971, a position he would hold until his retirement in 2005. At one point during his career, the elder Overfelt also was an employee at MBA.
“Dad worked for one year in the late 60s as the general counsel for MBA,” Overfelt said.
Overfelt’s lobbying career encompassed interactions with his father and brother, David, who now leads the retailers association. Sometimes, those interactions involved opposing views.
