If you had been there on that night, you probably would have asked yourself: why? Why did God choose to present this wonder- ful news to the shepherds first? After all, Jesus was a King, and the shepherds were practically nobodies. Why didn’t the angels visit ‘important’ people?

Well, remember, Jesus is a different kind of King. He is the Good Shepherd. Jesus loved the poor, the humble, and the weak. This shows us that wealth doesn’t matter to God, even if you are the richest person on earth. What truly matters is your heart, and as long as you love Jesus and trust him to save you from your sin, you will surely have treasure in Heaven.

After the angel had given the good news to the shepherds, more angels appeared, singing and praising the Lord. It must have been glorious!

Once the angels had gone, the shepherds decided instantly to go visit the newborn King that the Lord had told them about. So they traveled to Bethlehem and found everything exactly the way the Lord had said it would be. The shepherds returned to their fields praising God and spreading the word about the amazing things that were happening. I’m sure that none of them ever forgot that night when Jesus Christ was born. We celebrate that night every Christmas. This holiday season, learn more about Jesus’ life by reading the Gospels. Remember what He has done for you. Thank God that He loves you whether you are rich or poor. Also, don’t for- get to say a prayer for those in need. 2020 has been a tough year, but the Lord, our Good Shepherd, has a plan. Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas!
