Why Projects? By Vicki Marsh
money, and some your creative efforts! Currently, I am in a circle that sends money each month from our offering to support a mis-
S
sionary from our church. In a previous circle, we helped to sponsor a child in Haiti, and had a Camp Joy fund which helped to provide scholarships for campers. A local middle school needed underwear and pants for some of their students and we provided the needed items. A nearby homeless shelter was always in short supply of coffee, sugar, toilet paper, detergent for washing clothes and toiletries for the clients and we helped. Local pregnancy centers can always use money or baby clothes and diapers. At Christmas, an Amazon card makes a great gift for missionaries. Contributions to an Angel Tree or Christmas store program are useful as well. College students appreciate gift cards or “goodie boxes, especially at exam time (and I am told that their roommates appreciate the goodies as well!) Christmas caroling to shut-ins from your church is a fun project and if your church kitchen

has been updated or remodeled recently, a kitchen shower is a great idea-- new dish- towels, potholders, and dishcloths. If your church has an Easter Egg Hunt, helping to fill and hide eggs is a good use of your time. One year, we had a Parade of Tables where each person or each circle decorated a table with their own theme, sold tickets to fill their table and had youth to be the waiters and waitresses. The proceeds helped to fund youth activities in the summer. In the Fall, have a Pastor Appreciation
Day when you do a bag of gift cards, candy, notepads, cookies, etc. for the Pastor and in the Spring, celebrate Pastor’s Wife Apprecia- tion with a gift bag for her. A Staff Apprecia- tion Luncheon for the church staff is another way to show that their efforts are noticed! Help to restock the local food bank or pro- vide a meal to a local Boys and Girls Club. Have a mitten and hat tree in January after the Angel Tree to provide warm clothing for those in need. One of my favorite projects was when we each filled a bag with a recipe and all nonperishable items needed for it to a shelter for girls.
It provided a chance for
them to learn how to cook different meals which was an important skill to have. Ideas for projects are everywhere! Some
circles do projects every month, some once a quarter, some twice a year. When your circle is ready to do a project, you shouldn’t have to look very far!?
