Who Do You Trust? DAWN LEWIS

Women’s Ministries President

W

e, all of us, have been through some difficult times recently. This virus has changed our

world. Social distancing is the new nor- mal and masks have become a daily acces- sory for many people. Stores, restaurants, schools, and many other businesses have closed. Churches have closed. Summer vacations and camps have been cancelled. People have lost their jobs. Our friends or loved ones have become ill or scared of becoming ill and dying. Plus we have had all of the “normal” issues that life deals us. Where has your trust been dur- ing this time? Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us where to put our trust, “Trust in the Lord with all your

heart and lean not on your own under- standing; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Is it really that simple? Yes, I believe it is. God is more than able. He is able to pro- vide all of our needs. We live in a fairly small community and I have found it particularly strange that my local Food Lion still never has toilet paper when I go there. Why are people hoarding it? Now, I haven’t needed toilet paper yet as you may have guessed if you read my previous article on being prepared back in the March/April issue. Little did I know when I wrote that how applicable it would be. You see, these articles are due months ahead of publication. My husband and I feel strongly about

trusting God all of the time but especially in trying times. We have trusted Him with so many things through the years and He has proved trustworthy. Trusting in Him could lead to blessings we can’t even imagine for individuals, families, communities, and churches. Jeremiah 17:7-8 confirms God’s blessings on those who trust Him, “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence

is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.” It is easy during difficult times to put

your trust in man or in the world but we must continue to trust God. It is easy to just give up hope but we must stay the course. I’ve seen God work in our com- munity during this time. My church started worshipping via

Facebook Live streams on Sunday morn- ings as have other churches.

People

watched that didn’t normally attend our church. Then we moved to drive in church which is/was streamed on Face- book as well. I have seen people sitting in their cars that I don’t even know. People that do not attend our “normal” church services. That is God at work. I have seen groups plan and deliver meals to people in our community, hundreds of meals daily which have been funded through generous donations of businesses and in- dividuals in the community. Again, an ex- ample of God’s blessings on not only the ones receiving the meals, but the givers as well. There have been individuals that have organized a way to bring joy to oth- ers by dropping off surprise gifts to front porches for adults, graduating seniors, and children. Families are also spending more time together. Again, God is at work during this unprecedented time. I have seen one member of our com-

munity be on the verge of death from this disease. His family was making end of life decisions for him as doctors gave them little hope. As a part of their jour- ney they created a Facebook page to keep everyone updated on his condition and to ask for prayers for him. Today he is at home. He still has to do some therapies and build up his strength but his prog- nosis is very good! I believe the prayers are the reason. His family and community put their trust and hope in God. Nahum 1:7 tells us, “The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.” So again I ask you, who do you trust??
