By Katey Powell, Women’s Ministries President

was listening to Sirius radio channel 131 to one of my favor- ite pastors. He said that we need to bring our time, talent and treasure to God. Those three kept ringing in my mind. Am I giving my time, tal-  being a church member is essential to my life and my relationship with God. I began to think about giv- ing time, talent and treasures to my church and denomination. Time – Do I give my time to the Lord? To the church?

I To the de-

nomination? I have been in Wom- en’s Ministry for years. I started off brand new to the denomination and quickly found myself loving and serving in many areas of the church.       is a dear friend now but who was a stranger then whispered to me, “You have a pretty voice. You should be in the choir.” Then I was invited to a women’s Bible study with a wonder- ful group. Several years later I found myself leading that churches’ Wom- en’s Ministry. Now, as I think back – 25+ years have gone by and I am still in Women’s Ministry. Why? When I gave my time to God, the Church, and Women’s Ministry, I received blessing upon blessings! Blessings of relationships, spiritual wisdom, blessings that help me to remain faithful to my Lord. Talent – Proverbs 7:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharp- ens another.” I recently spoke at a women’s event and talked about talents that the Lord has blessed us all with. Yes! We all have spiritual gifts which can be rooted in talents. I joked that they

When I pondered that and talked with  open ourselves up to our sisters in Christ and use our TALENTS, whatever they may be (drying dishes, planning events, leading bible studies, or taking a WM role), we get to know each other personally and spiritually. The verse “iron sharpens iron” proves itself here. I think it’s equally important for the wiser la- dies in our denomination to speak to the younger ladies when they see spiritual gifts rooted in a younger women’s talent. Treasures – Matthew 6:19-21: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust[e] destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” What are our treasures? Mathew Henry says, “A treasure is an abundance of something that is in itself, at least in our opinion, precious and valuable, and likely to stand us in stead hereafter.” I used to think about money when it mentioned treasures because of the worlds interpretation on the treasure. As I became more and more a follower of Christ, I began to see my relationship with God as the most precious and valuable treasure I could have. The time and tal- ent that I dedicate to God are part of that treasure. The next two months will conclude my role on the ARP WM board as Presi-

dent. I will be Past President for the next year which has a smaller list of respon- sibilities. I will never regret the time and talents that I dedicated and continue to dedicate to Women’s Ministry. God has grown me so much through this presidency. I have learned life lessons through woman’s events, relationships with new sisters and brothers in Christ, and more. I have learned through mis- takes and hard decisions that I have made while in Women’s Ministry. Those add to my treasures God has shared with me on this journey. Are you using your time, talent, and treasures for the Lord Jesus Christ?

Where can you get plugged in? I encourage you to get plugged into Wom- en’s Ministry in your church, in the women’s presbyterial ministries in your area, and on the denominational level. And reap the treasures.

“May the God of peace, who through the blood of the eter- nal covenant brought back from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great Shepherd of the sheep, equip you with everything good for doing his will, and may he work in us what is pleasing to him, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen” (Hebrews 13:20-21).
